This Heritage Note is intended to
help individuals understand the complex nature of the
architectural preservation process. Individuals
interested in a particular aspect of the process are
encouraged to read further.
What follows is a brief overview of a
typical public architectural preservation process and
the role of the architect within it. The process was
developed in the public sector to meet public demands
for a responsible approach to the preservation of
significant heritage resources and reflects the need for
a clearly defined system that permits regular review and
approval at various stages.
