The Heritage Community Foundation is
a charitable trust that links people with heritage
through discovery and learning. The World Wide Web has
been chosen as the primary medium for communicating
media-rich heritage content to educational users and the
general public. The Heritage Community Foundation
develops and resources web development projects that
showcase the historical, natural, cultural, scientific
and technological heritage of Alberta. Both public- and
private-sector partners are involved in online content
development. |

The Foundation has Revenue Canada
charitable status (87082 2541 RR0001) and is governed by
a Board of Trustees who are responsible for the
administration and direction of the Foundation. The

The Alberta Historical Resources
Foundation, with technical and administrative
support from other branches in the Division,
allocates lottery funds to communities to help them
develop and care for their historical resources.
Projects range from preserving historic buildings
and restoring historic districts, to producing
interpretive markers and publications, to
educational projects. |
|
Founded in 1976, the Alberta
Historical Resources Foundation is a Crown agency,
attached to the Ministry of Community Development. The
mandate of the Foundation is to assist community
heritage projects across the province. While Alberta
Community Development offers these clients technical
assistance in heritage preservation and awareness, the
Foundation provides partial sponsorships from its
Alberta Lotteries funding allocation.
The Foundation directly operates the
Alberta Main Street Programme, which works in
partnership with communities to restore early commercial
streetscapes as a form of low-cost urban revitalization.
The program helps to restore local character, boost
local business and enhance tourism potential in 12
Alberta communities. |

Doors
Open Alberta recognizes the leadership role of the Ontario Heritage Foundation in establishing the first
province-wide Doors Open program in Canada. We
gratefully acknowledge the Ontario Heritage Foundation's
support - sharing their knowledge, experience and
program planning materials with our organizing
committee. Their tremendous success inspired us to
launch Doors Open Alberta. |

Established in 1973, the Heritage Canada Foundation is dedicated to promoting the conservation,
understanding, and appreciation of Canada’s built
heritage and historic places. In 2002, it launched Doors Open Canada. With the assistance of the
Foundation’s publication, How To Organize Your Doors
Open Canada Event – which provides advice on
developing project literature, sponsorship, insurance,
health and safety, accessibility and educational
opportunities – several cities have successfully created
their own events. The Foundation continues to promote
this program nation-wide. |
